Join us for a workshop about client psychology. Leading the workshop are Megan McCoy, Ph.D., LMFT, AFC®, CFT-I™, professor of practice and financial planning master's program director at K-State, and Billy Spencer, CFP®, CFT-I™, FBS®, is a financial planner at Crestwood Advisors in Boston.

Registration

This two-hour workshop and networking opportunity is $75 per person.

This workshop does offer an online attendance option, however, attending in-person is recommended for the best experience.

Meet the instructors

Megan Mccoy

Dr. Megan McCoy

Megan McCoy, Ph.D., LMFT, AFC®, CFT-I™, works in the Financial Planning Department in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Kansas State University where she serves as a professor of practice and the program director for the Financial Planning Master's Program.  

She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an Accredited Financial Counselor®, and a Certified Financial Therapist-I™.

Megan holds a B.A. in Psychology from yhe University of North Carolina and a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Drexel University. She also attended the University of Georgia, where she earned a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.

During her doctoral program, she developed a specialization in financial counseling and financial therapy practices. She volunteers on the Financial Therapy Association's Board of Directors and is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Therapy. Her research focuses on financial therapy, financial self-efficacy, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion within financial planning. Her work has been published in both mental health and financial academic journals.

Billy Spencer

Billy SpencerBilly Spencer, CFP®, CFT-I™, FBS®, is a financial planner at Crestwood Advisors in Boston. He recently completed Kansas State University’s Master of Science in Financial Planning Program with a certificate in Financial Therapy in 2024. He also completed Creighton’s Financial Psychology Certificate in 2021. 

Billy’s work focuses on helping clients discover their goals and align resources to achieve them. He also is passionate about sharing the psychology of financial planning and financial therapy with other financial planners. 

Outside of work, Billy enjoys being outside with his wife, daughter and Bernese Mountain Dog.
