The Brain of Automation: PLC Systems Made Easy
This two-day workshop on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is designed to provide learners with a hands-on introduction to PLC systems and a deeper understanding of real-world applications. This course covers the basics of programming, networking and communication and integration with different systems.

Instructor
Jonathan McPherson
Jonathan McPherson is the director of K-State's Advanced Manufacturing and Bulk Solids Technology Center. Jonathan comes from industry having spent 11 years designing and commissioning material handling projects as a project engineer and developing business relationships in the markets of performance materials, battery and general industry as an account executive. His project backgrounds include plastics, PVC, paint, lead-acid battery, food and confectionary.
Learning Objectives
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), which includes:
- Architecture, components and roles in industrial automation
- Ladder logic and other languages.
- Setting up hardware and software and troubleshooting common issues
- Data handling, industrial communication protocols and integration with HMI/SCADA systems
- How to design, deploy, and maintain PLC-based solutions in real-world applications
